Raleigh shortlisted for Bikebiz awards

Raleigh UK has been shortlisted in two categories at this year’s Bikebiz bicycle industry awards – Bike Distributor (Marketing) and Bike Brand.

In the Bike Distributor (Marketing) category Raleigh highlighted two successful campaigns, its 125th year anniversary campaign and its use of a professional road team (Team Raleigh-GAC) to promote its racing bikes.

The central feature of the 125 campaign was to rekindle enthusiasm and loyalty for the brand through nostalgic products and images. This included all 2012 Raleigh bikes featuring a special 125 badge (pictured right), the re-issue of the 1980 Tour de France winning TI-Raleigh replica bike, an anniversary book and photo gallery of packed with images from Raleigh owners.

The second campaign featured our professional road racing team (Raleigh-GAC), which is now once again a force to be reckoned with in the UK. The team has notched up over 50 podium places this season, helping to generate masses of interest in the Raleigh SP Team and Militis bikes that the team use.

In the Bike Brand category Raleigh nominated its electric bike range, which has seen lots of interest this year thanks to its programme of Big Electric Bike Rides.

The 14 demo sessions so far in 2012 have already helped Raleigh engage with hundreds of people keen to find a quick, efficient and practical mode of transport in our towns and cities.

Speaking about the Bike Brand nomination for the electric bike campaign, Ben Hillsdon, Raleigh Marketing Manager said: “Raleigh is one of only a handful of UK companies seriously investing in electric bike technology at the moment so it’s great to get the recognition for leading the way in innovative and pioneering cycling developments that can hopefully make cycling accessible for thousands of people who wouldn’t otherwise consider getting on a bike.”

On the Bike Distributor (Marketing) nomination Ben Hillsdon commented: “Everyone at Raleigh UK works incredibly hard to ensure the company is always at the forefront of the UK cycle market. We know we still face lots of challenges but this nomination, which largely came from independent votes, is a sign that the bike industry believes in what we’re trying to achieve.

The awards event takes place at the the Hilton Metropole on Wednesday 26th September, just before Raleigh exhibit at the NEC Cycle Show with one of their biggest ever exhibitions. Expect a few sore heads from the Raleigh team at the Cycle Show if they do win a Bikebiz award!
